I am not sure if you have seen the entry on RootsWeb concerning this family?  Haven't had time to read through everything properly.  Appears to have christening for Amelia and Elenor Steventon in Birmingham - Davinell Stephen in Edinburgh. My apologies if you have this already.

Hello Shanghaipanda

Thanks for the information.  I have been told about the baptism of Amelia in Birmingham before, but have the St Philips Baptism Register Index and haven't been able to find her on that.  However I am away from home at present and unable to recheck it.  The Library in Birmingham is closed until September as they are moving to new premises so I am unable to check there at present but think I should make a visit once they are re-open so that I can look at the original registers.

I haven't seen the family on Rootsweb and am unsure where to look for it.  Could you give me information on this please.  Any help is gratefully received.

Shanghaipanda - I have just subscribed to Scotlands People and managed to find the birth of Davinell on 21 February 1776 to James Stephens Shoe Mkr and Hanna Brett, so with the confirmation of James's occupation, I am pretty certain that this is my family.  Unfortunately I can't read all of the writing but think I have deciphered the important words!   Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Good to hear you have another little bit of information to add to your search.  (Now, .. if I could find my Irish agricultural labourer who immigrated to Scotland about 1810 from goodness knows where in Ireland .........) :P
