What sort of 'birth record' are you referring to?
I must admit I have never ever seen or heard of a birth cert with only a fathers namč.
But when it comes to christenings in parish records, then it was not unusual just to record the father.  Often you can find the christenings of sīblings in surrounding years, and may be lucky and find the mothers name on one of those. Or there may be a marriage of the parents which fits in. But it doesnt make it easy!

Re the query in your topic heading, this search:

will disclose Rootschatters who have registered an interest in the
CRAIK surname. A similar search will work for CRAIKE.

I am not familiar with all their names but at least one is currently
an active member of this forum. You will be able to contact them

I am looking at OPR records for Scotland from late 1600's and early 1700s. I guess I am being a bit hopefull to be able to find too much from these at that time. I have found apparent siblings but they could be different families all with the same father.

I have a branch of Craiks amongst my ancestors which come originally from the Aberdour/Gamrie area. They can be traced back to the early 18th century. In order to give you advice, it would be best if you could give details of the earliest Craiks you have traced back to with certainty.

I am fairly sure I have correctly identified ancestors to 1709, but it is impossible for me to go further unless I can find other forms of data. I have confirmed my tracing by several links and hopefully they are all correct.

If you post details of your 18th century Craiks, including parishes, it will make it easier to suggest further sources. For Aberdeenshire, for example, there is the late 17th century poll book, and there are various kirk records which might help.

I have Craike ancestors. My gg grandmother was Rachel Mary Craike, daughter of Thomas Craike and Margaret McDougall. The family were from Yorkshire, but went to farm near Easter Softlaw in Roxburghshire. Thomas died there and Margaret (and many of her offspring) emigrated to Australia.

Mine is Margaret Craik, born 1732 Cockburnspeth, married James Crawford 1760, father Patrick Craik married 1730 Cockburnspeth to Alison Fairbain
