Roberts Family of Rhiwlas and Llanddeiniolen
« on: Wednesday 19 June 13 08:26 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone
I have a Roberts Llanddeiniolen mystery in my own family. I'm hoping some kind soul can help me fill in some more pieces of my puzzle:

Time Line
c1831 My paternal grt grt grandfather was born David Roberts at Cefnybraich, Rhiwlas, Llanddeiniolen.  (age 22 at marriage in 1853 and age 72 at burial in 1904)
1835 David's father (I think!) was John Roberts, a quarryman, of CefnyBraich, who died age 47 and was buried at St Cedol Pentir September 8, 1835.
1838 Marriage at Llanddeiniolen Parish Church, Thomas Williams (s/o William Thomas) and Jane Williams, full age, widow, Cefny Braich, father William Morris
1841 Census, David age 9 is living at CefnyBraich in this household
   Thomas Williams, 45, Farmer
   Jane Williams, 50
   John Roberts, 20, Slate quarryman
   Thomas Roberts, 15, Slate quarryman
   Morris Roberts, 15, Slate quarryman
   Jane Roberts, 13
   David Roberts, 9
1848 Morris Jones, died age 21, and was buried with father John Roberts in grave J055 at St Cedol
1851 Census the picture becomes a bit clearer, at CefnyBraich we have
Thomas Williams, Head, age 52, Farmer of 9 acres of land,
   Jane Williams, wife, age 61
John Roberts, son in law, wid, age 30, Quarryman
Jane Roberts, daughter in law, unmarried, age 23, House servant
David Roberts, son in law, unmarried, age 19, Quarryman
   all born Llanddeiniolen
1853 Marriage at Llanddeiniolen Parish Church
David Jones, age 22, Bachelor, Quarryman, CefnBraich, son of John Roberts, Quarryman
Anne Davies, age 21, Spinster, PenyFfridd, daughter of David Williams, Quarryman
Have found them and their descendants on all subsequent censuses

I have found baptisms Llanddeiniolen Parish Church for all David's siblings, indicating father John Roberts & Jane his wife.  The only one that eludes me is David himself.

I have also found a baptism for a Jane Morris, father William in 1790 at Llanddeiniolen.

I've not been able to find a marriage for a John Roberts to a Jane Williams or Jane Morris.

Hi Heather, we are possibly related. Can you please confirm who is the actual mother of David Roberts? Is it Lowry or Laura Jones??? Or Jane Williams/Roberts??? Davids father is possibly Thomas John Roberts.

We are at a dead end trying to sort out our family in Wales as the interconnection between families with the same names plus the habit of changing names that are like nick names make it confusing!

Thanks

Ron Roberts

Hi both, I was interested to read your message chain as I have been struggling to identify my father's Llanddeiniolen family tree and your messages are encouraging. My grandmother, Laura Jones, nee Roberts, died in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales but was born in Llanddeiniolen in September 1885. She will have been part of the southwards migration from the Caernarvonshire slate quarries to the Rhondda coal mines at the end of the 19th century. I never knew my paternal grandfather but I believe his name was William Jones. They had five children (Nellie, Bill, Evan, Len and Glanville) and lived in and around Llwynypia.

I have been trying over several years to fill in my family tree gaps by following through my DNA matches on Ancestry and MyHeritage, but so far no luck. The Roberts family seem to come from Llanddeiniolen, with links to Flintshire, and William was apparently born in Chwilog according to one Census return.

Does any of this ring any bells with you?

Best regards,

Allan Jones

Is there a headstone for john Morris and Robert Jones in Pentir? Most of the photos on ''Find a Grave'' are mine. It should be under or very near the yew tree. Can have a look this coming week if you want. Found the 1841 census, that is confusing as the ages differ somewhat from the 1851 census.

Had a bit of time to spare so popped to St. Cedol and here's the headstone. It didn't help the sun was shining in my face so I will take another on a not so bright day.
