As Sue and previously suggested by Cando.

If you think a father would be mentioned on either of Ronald's marriage certs than you could purchase transcriptions from one of these accredited agentshttp://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent

I was digressing a bit. :-X

Hi there,

You mention that Ronald’s parentage may have an Aboriginal or  Chinese heritage, but you are unsure.

The information at NSW SRO’s index to the Unassisted Arrivals NSW 1842-1855 includes at “remarks” that the crewman by the surname MAKIN was a Lascar and from Calcutta.

Lascars crewed many of the sailing ships that came into Sydney during the colonial times.   You may well find that the heritage you are speculating about is from earlier generations.

http://www.southampton.ac.uk/archaeology/research/projects/lascar_lives_and_the_east_india_company.page

The index entry also gives:
MAKIN, (no given name), aged 22, on the Coromandel, C(rew) arriving Sydney 24 Oct 1854 from London.

Hi!
My apologies I meant to write Ronald not Robert. Had just found out I was  a great granny
so my mind must have been away with the fairies.

This in response to MaJm post re Lascar's.
From WIKI
"Lascars were also used by ships plying other routes. For example, the New South Wales government record of the ship Massilia en route from London to Sydney in 1891 lists more than half of its crew as being either Lascar or Indian."

Neil

PS congratulations ;D GGranny

:) Have found out that two of Ronald's brothers names were Keith and Charlie but apparently one of Ronald's brothers changed his name and I am hoping that it wasn't Keith or Charlie as there was quite a few brothers and sisters. :D

Looking for information on Ronald Kitchener Makin Born ? died 2001 Canberra, Australia. Married Heather Eileen Liddiard and later remarried Doreen ?
Ronald and Heather had two children together. This is all the information that I have. Any help would be appreciated. :D

Is  your information coming from a reliable source?  Sometimes family stories can lead research way off track.  I suggest trying to build on facts that you already know.

You could search here for possible death notices for "Keith and Charlie".

Have you purchased these marriage certificates?

16162/1939
MAKIN Ronald
LILLIARD Heather Eileen
District Wollongong

24572/1957
MAKIN Ronald
AYRES Doreen May
District Marrickville

Transcriptions are a cheaper option to purchasing certified certificates and the information is the same.
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent

If I was researching this family I would also consider purchasing this death certificate...it could be the Alice who had many illegitimate children in the Wollongong area.

12576/1924
MAKIN Alice M A J
Father Thomas Mother Mary A
District Wollongong

We can only help you so much and you need certificates to validate what has already been found.

:) thank you for all your help. I have been able to get in contact with Keith's (Ronald's brother)grandchild and they also cannot find information due to a lot of confusion with their father name. He is on the understanding that their mother used her surname of Makin and that she died in childbirth and the boy was called Eric Lee who was registered with only the fathers name. All too confusing and a lot of headaches ???
I will be looking into the history of the Ununderra railway crossing as their sister worked there as a gatekeeper so hopefully can find some information from there. Will keep soldiering on slowly and hopefully can find some information. Thank you for everyone who helped me  :D

I would suggest the contents of ALICE's death certificate would reveal more information of genuine use to you than the records of the Ununderra Railways.

What was the name of the wife of Keith, the grandfather of the person you have contacted?
