Mary Lewis Date of death
« on: Monday 17 June 13 02:31 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find when Mary Lewis nee Phillips died. She was born in Lambeth 1801, married George A Lewis (date approx 1820) and died in Poplar between the 1851 and 1861 census. George A Lewis was born in 1798 in Rotherhithe. Any help would be much appreciated

Regards jackhammer

Snap!

Deaths
Dec 1855 Lewis Mary Ann Poplar 1c 400
Jun 1857 Lewis Mary         Poplar 1c 391
Jun 1859 Lewis Mary         Poplar 1c 380

As there is no evidence yet of "Ann", the the 1857/59 ones seem favourites to start with.

Here's my thoughts.

1861 census:

Address: Work St, Poplar, Middlesex
George A. LEWIS Head Widower 63 Shipwright born Rotherhithe
Mary A. LEWIS Daughter 30 born Middlesex Poplar
James E. LEWIS Son 23 Shipwright born Poplar
Emma L. DRISCOLL Granddaughter 5 Scholar born Middlesex Stepney

From the above census and Mary being deceased, I found Mary Ann Phillips, born 14 September 1803 in Lambeth her father being John Alexander Phillips. Then Mary Ann Lewis death September 1854 Rotherhithe. I only found that Mary Ann going by the daughters name.

Just a thought  ??? ;D

Yes that's the census confirming that she had died.

Address North Street Poplar where they had been for 1851 as well.

That's the reason why the Poplar deaths were slightly increased profile in my guesswork.
Doesn't make them correct though.

Thanks for all the help you have provided . Would have replied earlier but have had computer problems that took a while to fix.
I am guessing she was born Lambeth as shown 1851 census, married in Rotherhithe to George Aaron Lewis (his birthplace) and died in North St. Poplar where they were living between 1851 and 1861.
I think I will have to try to buy George Aaron Lewis and Mary Phillips wedding cert if I can get the correct date, hopefully showing "Ann" or not.

Thanks again
