Thanks Heywood - I love that story too and it was just told to me by another of Peter's US Descendants - who is priest not too far from me in Worcester County MA.  HIs Gram - my Great Gram  was Sarah - especially the part about how she loved to tell it over and over.....

Oh so St Peter's in Middleton -I may have the wrong pic of a church I thought was the right St Peters in my tree then - I'll have to recheck that 

Thanks a bunch Heywood - I am also trying to find Thomas Rowbottom's birth and death - all I know is he married in 1851 in Greenwich and his father was Joseph and I have some of his service record but maybe not all of it but he was in 20 yrs.. Royal Artillary

Giggle - yes - so what do you know I did have the right church - on the link you sent me I could zoom right in to the church in the map to the right - imagine huh?  I can't wait until the 'wayback' machine can take me there in 1886 - giggle belly laugh!   Thanks again Heywood!

I can't see Thomas and Bridget in 1891 census    There is a death for a Bridget of the right age in 1899 in Barton upon Irwell but you have them emigrating so did they die in USA?

No - I know she was still alive in 1904 as she went to get a copy of Thomas' Service record - that record is in my tree - do you have experience interpreting those records - maybe you could take a look at it - under Thomas' profile - I am not sure if she died in England or the US...........I think she was trying to collect more aide beyond the pension....

The only military record I see is his Crimean war service award - is that the record?

I also see the two journeys for Bridget to USA on Ellis Island site - presumably that is her.

Oh sorry I have pics of the scanned military record in the pictures under Thomas Rowbottom in my tree  - geeze in looking at it again it that a 'discharge' of the pension in 1902 - DOD date of death? if so I missed that before

        I loved reading about John Redmond Lynskey.I see when he was 14 years he worked in the Mills.
Just to add. If you take a look at the 1901-1911 census of Ireland Mayo there are about 310 of Lynskey's  have a look a name may ring a bell.
      There does not appear to be any Cavanaugh's  in Mayo. But there is one family in Galway.
