Niksmum,

Thank you very much for that one.  I've got so many to choose from now!

Mike in Cumbria,

As far as I know he was a Gunner in the 6th (London) Bde. Ammunition Col, RFA, so I don't know.

Best wishes,

Roli

Signallers worked within the RFA, sending messages to the battery about how near the target their shells were falling. Gunner was an artillery rank, equivalent to a private.

Mike in Cumbria,

The only information I have about his rank comes from CWGC, so I assumed Gunner, but I suppose he may have been a signaler in the RFA.  Something else for me to check, then?
Best wishes,
Roli

Have a look at Gunner Hucker's sleeve (scroll down about 5 photos).

I'd say that your cousin was a signaller in the RFA.

I am now inclined to think you are right!  Thank you for that. Would a Signaler in the RFA be described as Gunner on CWGC, or as Signaler.  Something for the Armed Forces Board, perhaps?

Gunner, as far as I know. You're right though, the Armed Forces board would be the best place to confirm.
