Greasley Lookup Request for Thomas Ames, oh please, please
« on: Thursday 13 June 13 02:56 BST (UK) »
I have an unconfirmed date of birth for Thomas Ames/Aims/Annes as 1781 in Watnall, Nottinghamshire. I am seeking any available information on his birth or parentage.

He married Sarah Banner on 31 Dec 1804 and Elizabeth Wallis on 16 July 1829, (both in Greasley) but I cannot seem to find him before that date.  He died 7 Nov 1847, also in Greasley.

I have searched the available online records (the East Midlands one seems to be down at the moment) and the CDs available for purchase only work on a PC and I am on a Mac (arrugh!) and at the end of my options.

If anyone can help I will give you my firstborn....

If you look at 1841 census Elizabeth & Children all state "yes" =born in county (not necessarily in town/village they were living in) -e.g. Elizabeth gives p.o.b. as Annesley Notts in 1851

Thomas states "No" - so it seems he was not born in Nottinghamshire

Also ages are rounded down to the nearest 5 years of adults 15+ years
'
1841 Thomas' age has been transcribed as 60 - but on image I think it could be 50 or 60??

Had a quick look at the Greasley burials, to see if his age was down, but there is not a burial listed  for old Thomas A%%%%.

This is very close to the county border with Derbyshire. On Family Search there is a Thomas Amis baptised in Sandiacre on 8 Sep 1785 s/o Cooper and Grace.

I note there is also a John Amis (etc) having children baptised in Greasley at more or less the same time as Thomas - on Family Search there is also a baptism in Sandiacre for a John Amis s/o Cooper and Grace 6 Aug 1786.

As Sandiacre is only about 10 miles from Greasley, perhaps they are worth considering?
