Murta from Newry
« on: Wednesday 12 June 13 07:01 BST (UK) »
Ann Jane Murta was born In Newry in 1826 but I have been unable to find records.(Information taken from English Census for Warwickshire) .I know nothing about her family and would love to learn who her parents were and when she and they? moved to England. I can not find a marriage cert for her in England but she marries a Robert Stuart and from 1871 we find them and family on the Warwickshire census ---he was born Bradford.

Ann died 1905 in Birmingham. Can anyone trow light on this mystery please.

Many Thanks

to add to your info,  between 1854 and 1861 the only counties listing the surname Murta were Clare, Longford & Monaghan  according to Griffiths valuation, but Griffiths had a minimum  that excluded the really poor..  going back earlier using http://www.bagenalscastle.com/ancestry/search/details.aspx?id=Newry%20Town%20Agricultural%20Census%201803&surname=Murta&firstname=, you find 3 possible  clues
Listed in Newry Town Agricultural Census 1803
Firstname   Surname   Location
John   Murta   Boat Street
Patt   Murtagh   Derrylacka
William   Murtagh   Tollybranigan/Tullybranigan

Good luck further use church records from Ros davies co Down website use google and familysearch.com

There is an Ann Murta, baptised in 1826, father James, in Co. Armagh on this website : http://www.ancestryireland.com/family-records/birth-and-baptism-records-county-antrim-and-county-down/?search1=Ann%25&search2=Murta%

This website is pay per view, but it might be worthwhile taking a look.

The city of Newry is divided between Co. Down and Co. Armagh and she may have been born either in Newry, Co Armagh or in a townland outside of the town.  Most people gave the name of the nearest town to where they were born, especially on censes.
