Armstrong Berwick on Tweed
« on: Saturday 08 June 13 10:06 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with some info on the Armstrong family in or near Berwick on Tweed. George born 1804, James born 1802, in Norham, several other sibblings. Parents believed to be Archibald Armstrong and Ann Cairns.
Thank you, Kerry

Hi Rosie99,

Sorry about the delay getting back to you.
Thank you for your help, I have checked out the site you advised and have found that it will help me with other research, so thanks for that.

Re. Armstrong Berwick on Tweed - Sorry it seems a long and complicated tale - my husband's ggrandfather Robert Armstrong (born Berwick on Tweed) came to Australia in the 1850's. We have searched shipping records and have found only one Robert Armstrong who might fit the bill but his age was given as 'adult' so cannot confirm with his birth date. There was a George Armstrong on the same ship, also 'adult', and we are wondering if he is uncle George (George White born 1804) If we can confirm this some how then that will then confirm the Robert aspect as well.  If we could find out if George White Armstrong remained in England then this will also help. We seem to grasping at straws trying to find some tiny clue that may help.

Thanks again,
Kerry

Thank you for all your help.
We have Robert's details in Australia, ie marriage certificate, death certificate, children etc and also know his parents to be James and Phyllis nee Rule. Yes he was a cabinet maker and had a sister Margaret Hume. But do not know exactly when he arrived in Australia.

There is a Robert Armstrong arrived Australia on the Ship 'Kent' in 1852, listed as 'adult'. Is this our Robert? George Armstrong on same ship listed as 'adult'. Is there any trace of George White Armstrong still in England after 1852 or is he the link to confirm the arrival. Can't find any trace of him in Australia (maybe he went back home to England or died?) and there was no verbal trace of him handed down thru' Robert's family.

Thanks again,
Kerry
