Jones Davies Pwllhai

I am new to Roots chat. I am searching my paternal Grandmothers ancestry.
She was born Pwllhai in 1895, to a William Llewelyn  Jones and Elizabeth Davies.
I cant find them on the 1901 census.
I was told there my be a connection to the Gwbert Hotel and she gave roller skating lessons on the flat roof!
William was a medical assistant. can anyone help?

What was the name of your grandmother?
And I am having problems locating Pwllhai - where did you get this place name from?

jillig, do you know when William & Elizabeth were married and if there were any siblings?

Found a google reference to a market in Cardigan town, called Pwllhai.
There's also a Gwbert Hotel in Cardigan!

My Grandmothers name was Myfanwy Gwendoline Howard nee Jones, Pwllhai is in Cardigan
She had Two brothers William (bill) and Herbert or albert.
I dont know when her parents were married,
I have been able to track down the other sides of my family ,but these are proving elusive.

Do you have her birth certificate?

I have a feeling that her parents married after her birth?

There is no birth for a Myfanwy Jones, in Cardigan Registration District, in 1894, 1895 or 1896.
BUT there is a birth for a Myfanwy Davies! :o  This is the only Myfanwy birth registered  in Vardigan during that time.

March qtr 1894
Cardigan district    vol 11b, page 4

Oops Myfanwy was born on the 20 feb 1893in pwllhai cardigan .
Yes I do have a birth cert but have not been able to find marriage cert of parents.

I have visited Cardigan several times and remember that Pwllhai is the lower part of the main street of shops running through the town .  The Market Hall is located there. 

I have just looked up the delicatessen , Nelsons, which I thought was in Pwllhai  Have confirmed it is. The Post code is  SA43 1JR . Hope that helps to locate your relative's area of birth. Is it possible that her parents were shop keepers ? Sandra
