On this day in 1789 Nancy Bowker of Haughton and James Cock of Ashton under Lyne married at St Mary's Stockport. Nancy was daughter of George Bowker and Mary Shepley. James was a weaver

They had 11 children
James died in 1838 in Denton , he left a will, but although it appears in the act book and death duty records, the will is not to be seen. Nancy died in 1852

On 28 June 1829 my 2 x great grandparents, James Conquest and Susan Crisp were married at Camberwell St Giles, Surrey.  James was a carpenter, like his father and grandfather before him.  He and Susan had 10 children and their sons who survived to adulthood also became carpenters.

Two today from the same line:

3xgt. uncle George Pain born in Woolwich in 1821;  son of John and Elizabeth (still looking for her maiden name). George was baptised the next month at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich.  He died on 28th December 1822 and was buried at the same church on 3rd January 1823.

My gt. aunt Ada Amelia Sophia Pain, born in 1890 in Plumstead;  daughter of James Ottley and  Amelia Sophia (nee Rainer). Ada married Francis James Tipp in 1910 in Holborn; the family having moved north of the Thames between 1901 and 1911 census. Four sons were born and Ada died in Poplar in 1967, 5 years after Francis.
