On 12 June
John Cocket and Mary Hawkins my 5 x g.grandparents married at St Mary’s Parish Church, Weston, Spalding, Lincolnshire, in 1748

Robert Smith and Bridgett Myre my 7 x g.grandparents were married at St Mary’s Parish Church, Dalton in Furness, Lancashire, in 1703.  They had 8 children, my 6 x g.grandmother being the first one.  Robert died in 1743 but I can’t find a death for Bridgett.

Robert Robinson Gilchrist my 1st cousin 4 times removed was born in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1834

Cyril Purchon my 2nd cousin once removed died in France in 1917.  He was in the 8th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment and his grave is in the Duisans British Cemetery, Etruin, reference IV, J23.  Most graves in this cemetery relate to the Battle of Arras in 1917.

I do have a few ancestors' anniversaries today but I am going to reserve this post to just the one. The phone rang this afternoon - my sister telling me that my uncle died this morning at the age of seventy-eight. He was the second youngest of my mum's five siblings. All of the others died some time ago so this is the end of a generation in my family. Tonight I am feeling very sad.

Sorry to read of your sad news Jen.

Two birthdays today:

My 2xgt. uncle, John Viney, born in 1841 in Monkton Combe, Somsrset;  son of Henry and Eliza (nee Elliott). He was baptised the following month at Prior Park.  John, like many of his family, became a stone mason. He moved to London, as did his brother William (my 2xgt.grandfather). I can find him on a census with wife Eliza and 3 daughters but not yet found a marriage.  Eliza died and John married Annie Biggs in 1892. John died in 1910.

My grandmother,Mary Joanna Kingsman, born in 1901 in Kensington;  daughter of John and Annie (nee George).  Mary was the 4th child out of a family of 10 and during WW1 worked in a munitions factory.  She married John Frederick Bernard Howard in 1921; two children were born but their son died aged 7 months.  Mary worked as an office cleaner for most of her life and died in 1983 in Poole, Dorset.

Hi Gengen,
I don't suppose there's a connection, but my 4 x great grandparents were Joseph Sewell and Esther Jackson, and they married in November 1770 in Brough under Stainmore, Westmorland.  Esther's father was William Jackson.  Of course, Jackson is a common name, but thought it was worth mentioning because of the location of both marriages.
Ann

I think it is more than likely that there is a connection. I shall have a look through my tree and see if I can work anything out but it's more likely that I'd have to make a trip down to the Westmorland archives which, although it is only a ten minute walk away, I rarely have chance to do! Maybe this is the excuse I need. :)

No-one in my tree has any anniversaries until later this month.

I hope you can find something interesting for us both!  I have quite a lot of information about the male line of Sewells, most of whom were coopers in Appleby, but I know very little about their wives.
