I was going to leave this till later but might not be in, so better chuck them up now.
On 6 June 1884 Hugh Wright was born at Redford, Muiravonside, the first of four children of my great grandmother Elizabeth by her first husband Robert Wright. He would be followed by Elizabeth, John and Robina before Robert died just six years later from pneumonia. Elizabeth remarried several years later, producing one child from this marriage. This child, a daughter would grow up with a different surname to that of her four half siblings. In between these marriages was born, illigitimately, my grandfather, who would have his mother's maiden name as a surname. I know all about Robert Wright's line, thanks to a great grandson of his brother John. I have tracked, thanks to help from MonicaL, the family of her second husband from a large farm estate in Ireland, as far as the USA and goldfields of Australia. However, my grandfather's paternal lineage, I am afraid will remain a mystery that leaves a gaping hole in my research. No father is mentioned on his birth, marriage or death certificates and until I revealed all, not even my mother knew he was illigitimate. Only a seance it appears will reveal the truth.
On 6 June 1910, Jane Heeps Lawson was born in Crosscroes, Muiravonside, the second of three children born to my GG grandmother Hannah and her second husband John Lawson. This John is proving hard to track but it looks like his parents were from Cumberland. Only last week, with some great sleuthing from Gadget, I discovered that he committed suicide when his daughter Jane was just 21.
On 6 June 1840 my great great grandfather Peter Wardlaw was baptized in Whitburn. He had been born on 29 April, the eldest of four children of George Wardlaw and Agnes Torrance. If he had been born just three days earlier he would have shared the birthday of both his grandfather and myself, his great great grandson.
On 6 June 1890, my great grandparents George Wardlaw and Agnes Tweedie married in Armadale. The witnesses were the bride's sister Elizabeth and her maternal uncle William. I think he may have been standing in for her father who was deceased at the time of this marriage. George was the eldest child of the above Peter and his wife Janet Brown and was born just four months after their marriage, meaning his mother was already well pregnant or this was a record breaking short pregnancy. Agnes was the daughter of John Tweedie and Rachel Brown (no relation to the above Janet) and like all but one of her siblings was born in Bathgate. The only exception being her eldest sister Elizabeth, who was born in Fife.
George and Agnes would have a long marriage and produce five daughter's, one of whom was my grandmother and one son. This one son, Peter died young following injuries received in a mining accident and is buried with his parents. Their eldest child Rachel also died young and her daughters were brought up by George and Agnes in the village (in my avatar) and on the very street where years later I would be born.
Photos are of Hugh Wright and his younger brother John and the grave of my great grandparents and Peter Wardlaw their only son.
