George Vaughton, Brewood
« on: Friday 31 May 13 09:41 BST (UK) »
Has anyone any connection with Brewood, Staffs? My ancestor George Vaughton appeared in Barnsley, Yorkshire in 1775 as a wire maker when he married Sarah Ellis. There were no other Vaughton's in the area. The only baptism I can find is in Brewood, Staffordshire to Thomas and Beatrice Vaughton in 1753. I visited Brewood and found graves for Thomas & Beatrice and 3 sons, but not George, (and no burial recorded in the PRs), which suggests that he may have left the area. Thomas died intestate and his estate was administered by his eldest son, also Thomas. - no mention of George or his other children. I can't find any reason why George would have gone to Barnsley from Brewood aged 19 and can't prove a link to Brewood. I would be very grateful for ideas!

Do you have the marriage for Thomas to Beatrice Blythe 11/06/1747 at St Luke's Cannock. Beatrice is of the parish.

best wishes

Maria  :)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've got quite a lot of info for the Vaughtons in Brewood, but can't do any more on them until I can prove a link with George. Funnily enough, George & Sarah are buried in the churchyard in our village - bet they could give some answers!

The name Vaughton also appears in parish records forTamworth in the early 1700's. The ancestor you seek may not be from Tamworth, just another area for you to think about. The Vaughton family have links to Thomas Guy - MP for Tamworth.

Hi George Vaughton is also my husband's ancestor, just wondered if you had had any joy as we are the same as you, and are draining a blank as to who his parents were.
