McCracken / McCreadie /McReady

Please help...I'm trying to trace the family of JOHN McCRACKEN. All I have so far is a copy of his marriage certificate,he married Elizabeth Gibben in Glasgow on June 5th 1874

Cerificate states.....
JOHN McCRACKEN,  age 30, Baker foreman, a widower, of 20 Stockwell Place, Glasgow married  ELIZABETH GIBBEN aged 22, tailoress[same address].

John's parents; John McCracken ,Master Baker, deceased ,
& Janet McCracken, m/s/ McReady deceased.

Elizabeth's parents; Lawrence Gibben, ploughman & Margaret Gibben,  m/s McReady / McCreadie?

I THINK that John McCracken Jnr was first  married to an Agnes Miller abt 1865.

Any information on any of the above would be much appreciated.

Look what I located in my OPRs for Girvan:

Parents   Lawrence Gribbon, Ploughman - Margaret McCreadie, Farm Servant in Howtha (?)   
Laurie McGribbon (sic) Margaret McCreadie, both of Colmonell, Banns called 3 & 10/03/1850
John Gribbon               b. 18.05.1850 ch. 05.06.1850 Born Girvan
Elizabeth Gribbon        b. 26.11.1852 ch. 12.03.1853 Born Girvan

Hope this gives you something else to work with.

Hi Jim

I had managed to  find parents Elizabeth Gibbon, [ John McCrackens' second wife] but I thank you anyway.

My brick wall is John's  date of birth /parents.

Janet McReady/McCreadies' marriage cert to her first husband James Vint ,states she was born in Glasgow abt 1802, but the 1841 census when she is with John McCracken [master baker ] has her aged 40, birth  place Ballantrae?

I'm now wondering was John Jnr 's  father married previously and if so to whom?
Can't find a birth record for John nor a marriage for his parents

LDS shows a Jean McCracken born Colmonnel Jan  02 1832 parents John McCracken & Janet McCreadie

I've also noted the surname VINT on my OPR holdings. Let me check them out and I will forward any and all
VINTs, ok?

James Vint & Janet McCreadie had a daughter HELEN, she's on various census with John McCracken & Janet.

She died in Glasgow poorhouse. Also had an illegitimate son who is mentioned on the census records.

Hi Brenda, Just wondered if this is of interest to you. When Martha Calvert married Hugh Joseph Clarke at Ardrossan in 1918, her mother is given as Helen Calvert  m/s McCreadie.  When Martha died in 1931, the mother is given as  AGNES McCreadie,  very confusing. Hope you find this interesting, regards Del.
