It took a bit of searching but I found the info on where John Blair Montgomery died.
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/index-e.html
War Diaries of the First World War
under search topic try
MD No 11 Victoria
If that doesn't work, put in only Victoria
The information that you want is on October 1918, page 22

I will post the info here just in case you can't bring it up as it was being obstinate tonight.

23/10/1918 12:30pm
No 2020874, Pte Montgomery, J. died of Influenza and pneumonia

I suspected that if he died in Victoria it would have been from influenza but had to source it. I found this info by looking at Nursing Sister Marjorie Beatrice Moberley who wasn't included in the CWGC and there was a forum that was trying to source info to get her included.

I'm not sure if this site will work or not but will post anyway

Valeriec,
Many more thanks...why do you say if John Blair Montgomery died in Victoria you suspected influenza...was there a mass breakout/epidemic at this time?

Valeriec,

One of the marriages took place at "Manse of Chal____________? Presbyterian Church, 1495 8th Avenue, Vancouver. I've looked this up but comes back as a Masonic hall...any thoughts as to the right name of church?

Answers to a few questions
Yes, there was an outbreak of influenza at that point of time.

I can't find anything on a presbyterian church at that address but the masonic hall was built in the early 1970's. I would contact the Vancouver Library. They should have city directories that may give the name of the church and manse. Most of the larger libraries have an "Ask a Librarian" section.

The Vancouver Public Library also has searchable BC city directories online from 1860 to 1955. You can search by surnames or streets.

"Montgomery, Lizzie M., sister, b. Apr 1880, imm 1911
? very hard to read, female, lodger, age 9, imm 1911, I would suspect this is daughter of Lizzie M."

The Lizzie shown on the 1911 census at 265 Lansdowne Ave. arrived with her daughter Lizzie on the CPR ship Lake Manitoba sailing from Liverpool to Saint John NB. Its hard to see, but it looks to me as if the older Lizzie is a widow. Rather than Hector's sister, I wonder if she is a sister-in-law.

Sami and Valeriec,

Again I thank you!  :)
Lizzie was indeed Hectors sister b. Apr 9, 1880 Broughshane, Ireland...I had no idea that she married or had a daughter Lizzie...great info, I shall delve deeper into this. By the way your records online are so much better than over here in N. Ireland - very lucky!

I wonder did perhaps brothers Samuel b. Feb 25,1865, John b. June 26, 1876 and sister Rose Mary b. Jan 22, 1874 follow their siblings Hector, Catherine and Lizzie to Vancouver? The family had undoubtedly a poor existence in Ireland...9 children and parents living in a 2 roomed cottage...so a new start in Canada would have seemed very attractive! The 2 elder brothers William and David were iron ore miners and stayed in Ireland.

Its worth a look, but it would help if you had a bit more information. Did Samuel, John, or Rose Mary marry in Ireland? And if they did emigrate, do have any idea of the time frame?

Sami,

Just checked the 1911 Ireland census, none of three are listed and could find no marriage details of a Lizzie (Elizabeth) Montgomery...very strange.
