Fenton Battye
« on: Monday 27 May 13 21:16 BST (UK) »
Fenton Battye was born in Shepley Yorkshire in 1846 and married Carry Lord in 1879 at Kirkburton All Hallows Yorkshire. It looks like he went to America before 1880 but he must have returned before 1899 as he was buried at  Shepley St Paul Yorkshire on the 23rd of December 1899.
Any information on Fenton in America and how he got there and when he came back would be welcome.
All I know about Carry is from the Marriage record she was born about 1854 and her Father was William his occupation was a Farmer.

The only Fenton Batty I can find on the 1880 US census was age 30, born England living Philadelphia, married, a Shoemaker.  No wife with him.

This could be his return voyage to UK.  He's indexed as Trenton Battze, the name does look like Battye (a small case long z).

Departed from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the 'Ohio' arrived Liverpool 1 May 1893.  His age was 46, nationality English.  No other passenger named Batty(e).

Just a shot in the dark- linking America with Battye.
Is there any link between your Battye and Joe Battye who went to America in 1893, married Harriet Bottomley of Holmfirth. Her nephew, Fred Mellor, was my greatuncle, who joined them in Lawrence Mass, in 1902. Joe Battye seems to have been something of an informal recruiter for textile firms in Lawrence, he went too and fro across the Atlantic several times.

Thanks for all the information Libby
Rusty I have the marriage and census information for John but thanks anyway.
Bykerlads I cannot see a connection between Fenton an Joe Battye but I am still working on the Family tree so It is not impossible that they may be related in some way.
Thanks again
