What Happen to Eleanor Georgina Armstrong?
« on: Sunday 26 May 13 17:20 BST (UK) »
Eleanor Georgina Armstrong was BORN 20 March 1859 in Coxtown, Donegal, Ireland to William Armstrong & Anne Beatty. Siblings included Isabella, William, Elizabeth, Annie, & Mervyn, all born at Coxton, Fivemiletown, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

According to the old family Bible, Eleanor DIED in August 1942 in the USA.
-We don't know if she had moved there to live with her sister Elizabeth (Carre-Magee) ..?
-Maybe she was visiting Elizabeth and died while away, either at their home in PA. or on the ship?
-Maybe she had married and settled there with a family...?
-Was she travelling with other family members who might also be on a ship registry?
-She may also have been known as Elle, Ela, Elean, Ellen, or El.

We know that her Sister Elizabeth had a daughter named after Eleanor Georgina they called El.

I'm a bit confused about this post. There is a Coxtown in County Donegal but Fivemiletown is about 50 miles away in Co. Tyrone.

Several of your previous topics say "(ALL BORN AT COXTON while the family lived & died at Mill View Bridgetown Fivemiletown, Co. Donegal, Ireland.)" referring to Eleanor and her siblings-

There are several townlands and towns/villages in Ireland called 'Bridgetown' but I can't find any in Co. Donegal or near Fivemiletown.

If you could explain the location we might have a better chance of helping you.

The information we have comes from the old family Bible-

In 1828, Anne Beatty received the Bible from the Fivemiletown Church from the Revd JB Story Jr.

On May 14th, 1847, William Armstrong and Anne Beatty were married in Lisnaskea Church by the Rev John M (?) Graydon.

From 1848-1861 the children of William & Anne Armstrong were all born in Coxton, Co. Donegal.

In 1874, William died & was buried in Laghey Graveyard, followed by Mervyn Armstrong & James Beatty both in 1888 who are also buried there. Anne Armstrong died in 1891 & shares a headstone with William, "Interred in the family grave at Laghey." The family Bible reads, "These four deaths took place at Millview, Bridgetown, Donegal."

Again in the family Bible, it describes the home of William & Anne Armstrong as being "Millview, Bridgetown, Co. Donegal."

Sorry for any confusion; Hope this helps clarify the areas & dates i'm working in.

Thanks in advance for any available help.

On the OSI map viewer a search for Bridgetown Donegal gives a result for Millhouse Urbalshinney Bribgetown Donegal but no cordinates for any of the Bridgetown results, there are a few.

Millhouse, Bridgetown and Coxtown all show up on Google Maps.

I did find 'Millview, Bridgetown, Laghey P.O.' as a current address-

Doesn't help locate Eleanor but gives another version of the location of Millview-

Londonderry Sentinel, 30 Sept.1848: At Millview Lodge, Ballintra, the lady of William Armstrong, of a daughter.

Londonderry Sentinel, 5 Sept.1846: At Millview, Ballintra, county Donegal, the residence of his brother, of consumption, John Armstrong, Esq., for several years connected with the government press of New York. His remains passed through Enniskillen Friday last, for the burying place at Lisnaskea.

Thank you so-o much! I know very little of William Armstrong, Sr. so it's very exciting to know he had a brother John! :D

We Found Eleanor Armstrong!  :D After many years of searching, we found her death record which has since lead to many census records in Philadelphia, right where we thought she was living. For more information, check out her webpage here: http://familyhistorymoments.weebly.com/eleanor-georgina-wells.html
