William Hayden born 29th Sept 1854, Tramore. Details of his Master and Mate certificates and of the ships he served on are available on Ancestry. (fee). If he died at sea it might be worth searching familyrelatives.com - marine deaths. These registers are free to view though you will have to search each quarter seperately.
As his wife was a maternity nurse, Waterford Archives in High St also hold various records from the maternity hospital in Parliament St. - www.waterfordcity.ie/departments/archives/pages/maternity.htm
Harveys Directory lists a James Barry, Pilot living at 16 Henry St. in 1877. - http://waterfordhistory2.tripod.com/1877_directory_h_l.htm

Thanks for that information. I have his masters certificate, dated 1881. I will check on his wife Elizabeth.
Searching Mcnulty, Gallagher, O'Donnell. Achill Island.
and Hayden, Bishop,  Hamilton and Grainger Tramore and Waterford.
