Dating and restoration please
« on: Thursday 23 May 13 17:26 BST (UK) »
Would love some assistance with an old tintype photo in my family collection.  I've recently learned that this may be one of my 2nd great grandfathers and family and a date would help confirm.  Samuel Jasper Nash (we think the man with the long beard) lived 1840-1926.

I've placed a 1200dpi version here:

Thanks in advance!

Looks early 1900's & the woman at the back appears to be wearing a wedding ring bearing in mind this is in reverse.

Hi
I'm no good at the dating part but if you can be a little patient I'll do my best to restore it for you - I've downloaded it already and found a lot of noise on the photo, so it might take me a little while (couple of days)!
And I'm not as quick as some of the wonderful restorers on here!

Hi there!  I'm in no hurry whatsoever, and would surely appreciate any assistance you can offer!  Thank you!

It's a pity about the convention of being serious in a photo, isn't it.  That poor girl in the centre of the back row would look really good with a smile - as it is, the corners of her mouth could scarcely turn down more, could they  ::)

Do you think the photographer used to cry "think sad thoughts!" rather than "say cheese!"?

I agree, Igor - it does look rather like a 'grumpy convention' doesn't it.  And not in a natural manner but as though they were all told to look sad or cross.

Hi
Here is my version - it looks like the photographer put ties and bows on them after the photo was taken - so I left them.
