OK - sorry scrap that theory - from Family Search it looks like Doris wasn't truthful about her age either!!

From her baptism record she is shown as born 25th October 1895 in Madras - rather than 1898 - baptised 1st December 1895

Well, sly old Doris ha ha!

Yup, haven't got time for this (! :)) but this is what I have in an email about the Bootle one. Don't know where the date of birth came from (sorry!!)

Birth registered Jan-Mar 1883 West Derby, Lancs Vol 8b p.501 (Birth certificate available from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp )
Born 24th March 1882 Bootle, Liverpool? a year earlier??

he was eight years old when  living at 44 Brasenose Rd, Bootle in 1891 Census with
father Dormill born Germany in 1846
mother Carstine born Germany in 1846
and sister Caldrice born 1872

he was a general carter at Gartin(?) Dock living in 1901 Census with
father Daniel born Dorchester - a dock labourer
mother Caroline born Guernsey

Married Maria Thoms in Liverpool 26th Sept 1904

On 6th June 1912 he and his family arrive in Sydney on the TSS Themistocles from London
William - a carter
Maria
Mary aged 6
Emily aged 5
Gladys aged 1
Daniel aged 3

In 1930 he is a coal lumper living at 117 Kent Street, Darling Harbour, Australia with
Emily a stenographer and
Maria (home duties)
This is the only appearance of them in the Electoral Rolls from 1911 onwards as published on Ancestry.co.uk so far

************************************************

Well Sue, if you have time in the next week or so to look at William's siblings then it would be fantastic if you would. (I used probate records a lot to find out about the spinsters.) (NB George E, Alwyn H and Gertrude E are not the same family despite also being Chubbs from Islington.)

From the info there Jon - I'd say you are right to dismiss him - I can't see there is any chance of that William being yours

Do you have any possible alternate sources to clarify a dob for your Indian Army William??

I'll see what I can find for descendents of the Islington William - I'd still put a few bob on his being the one you are after :)

Good luck for the exams - after all this distraction

Cheers
Sue

Well Hooray for the Mumbai YMCA and their General secretary Mr Ebeneezer Simeon who today sent this photo of W. Chubb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If only we can prove that the Indian Army list birth date is wrong and that this Byculla Captain is my 36th Jacob's horse one. Finger's Crossed.

The power of the internet!!!!

I also think I've found a photo of Eustace Lockhart Maxwell on the FIBIS site!!! What amazing luck. Needs final confirmation that it's him, but looking very likely.

Right, back to revision
