Help to get photo at Much Birch
« on: Tuesday 21 May 13 09:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My GGG Grandfather lived at the Old Shop at Much Birch in the 1840's  working as a Cooper, and I was wondering if there was anyone living around this area, that might kindly be able to take a photo of this dwelling.     I believe that this building still stands, and at that time around, it appears to have been next door to the Post Office building.

We live in Australia, and the sad part is that we were travelling through this area a couple of years ago, but at that stage I did not know the existence of this building.

I would really appreciate any assistance anyone could provide, thanking you.

Thanks so much, since posting I have found out more information on the family, apparently his Mother owned several patches in town, so if you can get a photo of the local church too, that would be great, especially if any graves for the Cooper Verry family

most likely you know this, but google street view has the village and church and graveyard well covered, search for Hereford uk and move down the A49 to much birch.

added, I'm sure mike will succeed, but the street view is interesting, can you spot the family historian making notes in the churchyard?

Hi Mike and Mazi,
Have had a look on Street View, having difficulty finding the street address for the Old Shop,
not had any luck so far.

Wondering Mike if you managed to go to Much Birch at all, had any success at getting a photo, or is it that the Old Shop does not exist after all.

Cheers

I drove through Much Birch the other day, and remembering your thread I had a look for a likely looking old shop.  I couldn't see anything so it might not have been on what is now the main road (A49), or it could have been demolished when the road was widened.  If anyone does come up with an address for the shop, I can easily pop back one weekend to take a photo or two.

my problem too, but it was "old shop" in 1841,  in 1851 he was at Hereford road, implying the main road.

there is not much at Much Birch, but I think the parish may also include wormelow, which has two pubs and a shop and post office, if so they are very very much changed from 1851, as can be seen very clearly on street view.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much, living in Australia, it is hard to gauge the whole situation, and having been over in the UK in 2010, I have a bit of an idea about the area.   We did travel along the A49 and actually stopped at the Pilgrim Hotel, but just wish we had known about our family in Much Birch then.
Beautiful area, I just wishes we had actually gone into the village itself.

However, I have just googled the address, and a sale came up for a Terrace, 2, The Old Shop,
Much Birch, sold on the 25.6.2010 for 178 pounds, so was thinking the building was probably still there.

Maybe I will try to find an Estate Agent on website who might be able to help me.

Thank you for your help anyway, much appreciated.
