My grandaunt Margaret Fitzgerald married Daniel McCarthy of Carrigbawn, Drinagh, Co Cork on
11th September 1888

Margaret died on the 19th December 1893 as a result of an accident.

I had her in the 1901 and 1911 census....at that time she was living with her Dad and his new wife Kate.

So I recently discovered that in 1917 in Hastings she married Cecil Theophilus Joslyn. On the marriage cert her Dad is Daniel...School master.

1911 census
House 3 in Carrigbaun (Carrigbaun, Cork)

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002013302/

Note that Mary Kate's profession was National Teacher.

I came across a marriage cert some time ago ....marriage of Cecil Joslyn and Mary Kate McCarthy.
Marriage took place August 1917.

Of course I can't be certain that the Mary Kate is daughter of my grandaunt Margaret, and indeed her age in 1917 would be out of sync with her dob.
Her father's name is correct and he was a teacher.

What was Mary Kate's profession on her 1917 marriage cert?

Mary Kate's profession on her marriage cert is Waitress.

Hopefully over time I can figure out if she joined family in England or perhaps she went on her own

Hi Anna,

I hope you are well.
I'm new to tracing ancestry.

I started tracing my ancestry a few months ago, although I benefited from my cousin’s dedicated work.  On the Fitzgerald/McCarthy side, I've been able to authentically trace back to my great grandparents, Julia Ann Fitzgerald who married Charles McCarthy.
Juli(a) Ann McCarthy (Fitzgerald) (1877 -1957)
Charles McCarthy (1873-1947).

Your post caught my attention as I was exploring the Fitzgerald ancestry.  I found a marriage certificate for Julia Ann and Charles with a Richard McCarthy listed as Julia Ann's parent.  It appears to be the same family tree.

My grandmother, Josephine P McCarthy, is one of 8 children of Julia Ann and Charles McCarthy.

I mentioned your post to my aunt Linda (who lives in the US and is a daughter of Josephine P McCarthy) a few weeks ago.  Josephine P McCarthy traveled to the United States at a young age.  My father is a son of Josephine P McCarthy

Linda mentioned that you might have reached out to her a few years ago about the Fitzgerald gathering.  Linda changed her email so unfortunately she doesn't have access to your message anymore.

Does this seem like the same family tree as your great grandfather, Richard Fitzgerald.
Born - 4 Dec 1807 Cork, St Finbarr's (South), Cork city, Ireland
Died :Dec 1903 Lisbealad, Co.Cork, Ireland

I noticed an error in my last message:

I found a marriage certificate for Julia Ann and Charles with a "Richard Fitzgerald" listed as Julia Ann's father.  It appears to be the same family tree.

This presumably was the marriage record-
Charles McCarthy married Julia Anne Fitzgerald on 25 August 1904 at Drinagh RC Church. Julia living in the townland of Lisballad [sic] - see reply #36

1901 census for Julia and family - see reply #19

Richard Fitzgerald died 17 November 1903. His son Matthew Fitzgerald was the informant.
