Stephen Grocott family to Canada

I am searching for Stephen Grocott, wife Mary Ann and 3 children who emigrated from London to
Canada in 1904.  A daughter named Jane was born in Wellington, Ontario 1905 and then the family
disappeared.  Any help would be appreciated ......

A little more background for us - I see you've been trying to unravel the mystery for some time :
This is from various sources (baptisms, passenger lists, school records):

The family Immigrated in May 1904 on the ship "Lake Erie"
Stephen GROCOTT -   b 7 May 1873, Hoxton, London
Mary Ann Emma (nee BAKER) -  b abt 1880 Bethnal Green, London
Joseph Henry  -  b 25 Jan 1899, St Lukes London
Christina Florence M -  b 3 Nov 1900, St Lukes London
Lilian Rosina  2 -  b 27 Jan 1903, St Lukes London
Jane - born 2 Jan 1905, Wellington, Ontario

Someone also found the following for you - perhaps the surname mispelled:
"Calgary Herald 1907" under the title "Small Articles".
It reads:-
GORCOTT, Stephen - is charged with threatening to do
bodily harm. It seems that he had been telling his wife
he intended to kill her, and she became so frightened of
him that she went to the police and complained, with the
effect that he is now locked up and will have his hearing
this morning - 3/21/1907.

I found an interesting article about Mary Ann in the Vancouver Sun dated 9 Jan 1941.  It indicates that her marriage to George Frederick Gilbert was annulled and it mentions that Stephen Grocott was still alive. Here's a link:

It says she had 4 children from her first marriage and 3 from her second. Here is her death registration with one of her sons as the informant:

Here's the marriage for Jane. The name of her father is wrong but I think it's possible she didn't know it and used her step-father's given name instead.

It appears that Mary and George were living together as a couple before they were married. The marriage registration I linked to above indicates that both gave their residence as being in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. I found a Fred and Mary Ann Gilbert on the 1911 census in Saskatoon. They have Mary Ann's daughter listed as Jennie Gilbert and two other daughters named Daisy Irene and Gwendoline. Here's a link to the census image:

Some of the information is a little out but the Saskatchewan Vital Statistics genealogy database does have a birth for Daisy Irene Gilbert on 3 Oct 1908 to Fred Gilbert and Mary Ann Baker. There is also a death for Daisy Gilbert on 23 Jan 1916 in the database.

On the 1916 census for Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the family is in Saskatoon as follows:

Fredrick Gilbert, 32, born England, immigration year 1906, teamster
Mary Ann Gilbert, 30, born England, immigration year 1906
Jennie Gilbert, 11, born England, immigration year 1906
Winnie Gilbert, 6, born Saskatchewan
George Gilbert, 4, born Saskatchewan

Again the information is a little out regarding Jennie.

LOL - Mary Ann's dob being the one I hadn't bothered to look out  !  Pat, I'm guessing you probably have got them - but if you haven't got these full details as follows - let me know: 

She was baptised as Emma Mary Ann BAKER on 18 Aug 1882 at St Andrews, Bethnal Green. Parents: Charles and Mary Ann BAKER of 8 Coventry Street. The baptism records notes her dob as 24th July.

Her marriage to Stephen was on 9 Feb 1898, as the newpspaper article states. She was just 17.

Stephen was a Barman on the 1898 marriage cert. I'm wondering if the reference to him as a Barman in the 1941 Newspaper article is maybe an historical reference and he mayn't be a Barman still in 1941??

I may have a clue regarding Christina. There is a border crossing document for a Christina M. Growcrott/Growcott alias Denny who crossed the border at Eastport, Idaho on 7 Mar 1917. Her destination is listed as Spokane, Washington. She was 16 years old and it indicates her passage was paid by her foster mother. I haven't been able to find her as either Grocott or Denny in the US or Canada so some type of confirmation would be needed to prove this is the Christina you are looking for.
