I do not think that your reference to Thomas William Barnes is published in the London Gazette. Look at the reference to a Thomas William Barnes on 26 May 1942 on the London Gazette which reads Issue number:35576 Page number:2326. Presumably your father was Mentioned in Dispatches +- 1942. Check the link below.

I am not an expert in "Mentioned in Dispatches" but I would say your reference numbers are from Royal Engineers Documents.

MED     23. 5 .46 L/G 2457      File no    I V E 3640 date stamped 26 Nov 1946..Sorry if Ive just repeated previous info but that is now all I know/have I would love to be able to tell more I don't know how I can get any more .

Unfortunately not a lot of the citations for MIDs appear to have survived however he will have an entry on the London Gazette, but like you I have great trouble finding entries.
However it would appear that from what you have posted his MID may be on Page 2457 of the London Gazette of 23/05/1946. Are you able to confirm if he was a POW at all, as that might explain the later date of being gazetted.

I do have a number of the WO 373 files downloaded which I am slowly trying to wade through for my own purposes, so could have a look and see if his citation does survive. However due to other things I cannot spend as much time on doing that as I would like so there may be a long delay in getting any info for you, if that is any exists at all!

Let me  know
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy many thanks for your reply ,to the best of my knowledge my Father was not a  P O W . I don't know if I can get a copy of the London gazette or if there is a phone no. that I can use where they can throw some more light on his M I D.It,s so annoying when you know some person/office is holding some info you are desperate to get hold of and can,t for one reason or another.I,m so lost with this  and I thought doing my family tree was hard. I am so grateful for your help and I am happy to wait .

Thank you once again

Hi Marlers,

I have found the London Gazette entry for your father T W Barnes. It was in the supplement to the London gazette. He is about half way down the right hand column & it basically says the following.

2174463  Dvr T W Barnes.

This is a link to it, which you should be able to save a copy of it or print it at the very least:

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/37575/supplements/2457/page.pdf

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
