Hi Bryant, you are uncovering interesting stuff!

No any Dix family from Ampthill are not (at least I believe) the family of James.  I did spend time following many of these families and can to the conclusion that they are not related.  But of course I could be wrong :-[  However, I did come across a DIX family in Holborn who could be related.  And as I mentioned I went through the BMD records looking for DIX members in Edmonton and there were definately some there but I cannot make the link.  I should perhaps go back and explore that further.

Perhaps Henrietta is from another child that I haven't found yet.  I do know that Emily Caroline was the mother of Frances Lilian born 1881, no father shown.

All of the women were at some time occupied as straw bonnet makers on Fishpool Street where several large straw hat factories were situated.  My grandfather had mentioned that to me.

Ok I looked at the 1851 census and cannot find a Mary that fits born in Bucks do I will have to spend more time on it .

I think it's back to the drawing board for me!

Iv'e been chasing the wrong family halfway across the Country......... :'( the one below looks more promising  :)

James said he was 60 in 1881........which would make him 20 in 1841  ::)

Why did this James get overlooked? .........James must be the brother of William!

1841
OLD GREEN, DRAGON LANE, EDMONTON, WINCHMORE HILL, MIDDX
WILLIAM DICKS  25  LAB     Y (BORN MIDDX)
SOPHIA        "     25              Y
JULIA            "      4               Y
GEORGE        "      2               Y
WILLIAM        "      1               Y
JAMES            "       20            Y
-----------------------

This marriage looking the likely one...............
WILLIAM DIX to SOPHIA ALLOWAY............22ND May 1836....ST ANDREW, ENFIELD the cert would provide father's name & occupation, as well as witnesses!

1861
CHASE SIDE, WINCHMORE HILL, EDMONTON, MIDDLESEX
SOPHIA DICKS  HEAD  47 (WID)                           ENFIELD
GEORGE     "      SON   22                                      WINCHMORE HILL
ANN            "     DAUR  17                                                   "
PHOEBE      "        "      12                                                   "
EMILY          "        "      10                                                  "
JAMES          "     SON    7                                                    "
-------------------------

THE 1851 CENSUS DETAILS FOR THE FAMILY ABOVE WOULD BE HELPFUL IF ANYONE CAN PROVIDE THEM .......PLEASE

Bryant
ps...............my daughter gave birth to twins overnight........a boy and a girl
and iv'e just been mugged again to pay for baby clothes as she didn't wish to know the sex of the twins prior to birth............I knew I was good for something!
Researching names BRYANT (Camberwell), PASTERFIELD (Essex and all), RAY (Holborn/Islington areas back to Brentford), POWELL (Glouc & beyond?)

 ;D  Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!  Twins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Don't know why I overlooked this James.............I've been through my notes but can't find any notes saying why.  But you are right it certainly looks as if this is the family..............by jove Bryant I think you cracked it  ;D  I'll send for the cert.

Many thanks again.

If I can return the favor with any lookups let me know.
