Belfast Gail mentions Edward Hay's marriage in New Row Presbyterian Church on 8 April 1831 and EH's occupation as a policeman.
In 1845, for the baptism of his son John, EH lists his occupation as 'Farmer and Keeper of a public garden, Bailiff and Process-server'.
I'm researching for a book on the composer, music critic and broadcaster, Edward Norman Hay (Edward's grandson) and would be most grateful to find the original source for Edward's marriage details and occupation.
PRONI has New Row's details from 1832 and I've not found any reference to date for EH being a policeman in 1831. However, in 1858, on the baptism of his son Robert Alexander, he gave his occupation as 'Late sergeant in Constabulary'.
I'd be grateful for help on this.

Many thanks Aghadowey. Apologies - somewhere along the line I've taken a misstep! I have my own copy of PRONI's Guide to Church Records, but didn't write down the entry for New Row for my PRONI visit a few weeks ago. So I relied on the particular microfilm which I searched to no avail. I'll go back and check. Meanwhile (embarrassment No.2) I took part in an Ulster Historical Foundation Zoom meeting last week and they produced the RootIreland.ie record of the 8 April 1831 marriage record of Edward Hay to Margaret Taylor, father James Taylor and witness Susan Taylor. This was a typed record and I must see the original to verify the occupation for my self. O ye of little faith! Many thanks for your reply.

Londonderry Standard, Wednesday 07 November 1838, p.3 - Press announcement that Edward Hay is appointed a Process server for Coleraine. This was renewed year on year, even when he was administering his Coach Factory, certainly up to 1884 (Northern Constitution, Saturday 29 November 1884, p.7)
