Do you have any famous NZ'ers in your family?

Hi everyone
If you don't know already I am the coordinator for the School's only day at the Family History Fair on 2nd August this year. The Fair runs from the afternoon of 2nd August until Sunday 4th August - don't miss it !!

A part of the school's programme is a competition for students to produce a poster of their families. We also want to display some trees from famous New Zealanders - especially people that our current Youth look up to. This is a great way to get our youth involved in Genealogy and Family History.

So how can you help? Do you have anyone in your family that our students would look up to? Can you use some family influence to allow us to prepare a simple chart about their family history? This would really help me to avoid going through all the media and promotion companies.

If you think you can help many of you know how to contact me - or send me a message via the Family History Fair 2013 website - look for Schools and Melanie Middleton. I would really appreciate any help you can offer.

Hello.

Your profile does not give an indication of your location, so I ask, have you approached the Pukekohe organizers.

There are people like kiwihalfpint; and the likes of Susanne who will be a conference host when they, visit the Historic Pukekohe East Church, who have data of interest on some of the old pioneers who have been Honored by their community and the country. Like wise with the living or recent dead, the high School I would expect has an honors board for high achievers who have passed through their door.

Having been born in the Mother Country my New Zealand related families are very limited but two New Zealanders would be my choice to be related to:

a. Charles Upham, VC and Bar
b. Oliver Bulleid, railway steam locomotive designer, whose many designs included the Battle of Britain and Merchant Navy Class locomotives.

 What a wonderful project. I wish i was there.
 I have been researching my New Zealand family history for over 10 years. My great grandfather was a well known engineer Peter Seton Hay, who came out from Scotland in 1860. he was the first graduate of Otago University in 1879 and went on to become Chief engineer of the colony. I have very little other knowledge or photos of his life and family . He died in 1907.
His son John Seton Hay was my grandfather who was also a graduate of the university along with his other son James Johnston Hay.
 John Seton Hay married a widow Patricia Henrys(nee Ludlow) in 1919. Her first husband  Was John Louis henrys, son of Joseph Edward Henrys born in 1866 in Dunedin. He went on to become one of new Zealand"s most famous racing handicappers.
 So as you can see I am ver frustrated at not being able to access photos and family information because from what I can gather both families would have been quite notable at the time.
 I hope you find my families suitable to research and i am sure I would be grateful for any new photos or information you might uncover.

Don't know if people look up to wealthy families but there are quite a few in NZ, most of them are sort of rags to riches. Even my namesakes. A lot of them already have public trees.
