Help with Moorgate Cemetery Rotherham Please
« on: Sunday 05 May 13 19:53 BST (UK) »
I have several relatives buried in Moorgate and want to pay a visit but I can't find any details of the graves.
Can anyone help me locate plot maps of the cemetery and also burial records which will give the grave numbers where they are buried. The NBI only gives the dates of burial/ages/names. The relatives are all members of the LAW family.
Thanks
Darryl Nugent

To get that sort of information that you require I would imagine you would need to contact the council!
Someone more familiar with the area should be able to assist you, so  the information you need to supply: Name, date of death, and possibly an address?
Can't be more specific as details required vary.

Hi,

My grandparents and uncle are buried in Moorgate cemetary and I live in this area of Rotherham.

My cousin found graves there by contacting the council archives department and I think Rotherham local history archives are now located at Clifton Park Museum, Rotherham.

I provided some photographs of some graves for a website but I didn't see anyone with this name on the list of photographs I took.

If you managed to find the details from Rotherham council, I am happy to pop along and see if I can locate the grave and see if there is a headstone etc.

Hi there, If you go on line to Rotherham Family History society they have the burial records transcribed on CD. The crematorium at east Herrinthorpe have the old books with all the details you will need and in some cases you can see the cause of death, but that is the earlier deaths. Ring them first to make an appointment, because there's not much space for research.
Lizzy.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll follow your advice and if I have any success with the Council, I'll take up Bawtry's offer.

Cheers

I recently visited the office at Herringthorpe Crematorium to look through the Moorgate records. They are detailed and you can even look up who else is buried in the same plot. Here's their phone number 01709 850344.
