As the photographer clearly had access to restricted areas, we must assume he had some official status.  Would be brilliant if we could find out who he was.

This link is interesting, detailing how flat bottom boats were used to carry troops and artillery to capture Amara and attempt further advance thereafter.

He didn't go to Mesopotamia until July 1916 which means the photos must have been taken at about that time, or some of them at least.  He had been wounded in France in April 1915 and shipped back to England (or should we say Blighty) to recover.
