Another brave man under the cross at Basra War Cemetery.
Captain Maurice Burnett, R.A.M.C. was killed in action at Shaiba, in Turkish Arabia, on April 14th 1915, aged 26. He was the son of Surgeon- General Burnett, R.A.M.C. (retired), and he was born on October 31st 1888. He was educated at St. George's Hospital where, after taking the M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. Lond., in 1911, he served as senior house physician. He entered the R.A.M.C. as Lieutenant on January 26th, 1912, and became Captain on March 30th, 1915, when all the lieutenants of the R.A.M.C. on the active list of the regular army were promoted to Captain.
