Heywood, Yes! That is actually a really good catch! It is the same Laura Mary Daly and yes she did lie about her age. We are not sure why but we know for certain it was her. She died in the London bombings in 1940. Marriage Certificate says: Herbert Shepherd, 22 years old, shoemaker and Cold Stream guards, private no 10426, living in Wimbledon camp, His father is also Herbert Shepherd, Private in East Surrey Regiment. Laura Daly, 23 years (again lie), messenger for the ministry of munitions, living 12 blenheim st. Chelsea, Father William Daly (deceased), Bootmaker. Witnesses Edith M. Onslow and Harry Hammond. Two Chldren: Mary Agnes 26/7/1920. Anthony Herbert 20/4/1922. That's all I have. But cannot find any Herbert Shepherd (father) in census records who was in East Surrey Regiment. I think I have some military records on him but again it doesn't say who he was married too. Jen

This is the only chap I can find with a connection to the East Surrey Regiment. It is only a medal card so unfortunately does not give any personal details -Herbert James Shepherd.
It would likely be for a person older than your Herbert so perhaps his father  :-\

Yes, that is the same issue I was having and yes I think that is probably his father but not enough information to say for sure. Thanks for trying! Sometimes fresh eyes are what it takes:)

Just rereading your information, Herbert James was a Sergeant so maybe not him. He was discharged in 1920.
Was your Herbert a serving soldier on marriage?

Jen, in your searches over the years, have you come across this family? From 1901 www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X942-Y39 Can't see them yet in 1911.

Herbert Snr's wife was Ellen Bravey. Ellen and Herbert Snr married in Chelsea 1st Qrt 1899 (1a/602). Not sure if Ellen was Herbert Jnr's mother in this family group given the marriage year?

Herbert Jnr's christening was on 5 Oct1900 and showed his birth date as 14 October 1897 which is not far from his birth date on his 1939 entry (24 October 1897).

Herbert Snr's occupation seems to have consistently been that of a waiter.

Herbert Snr's WW1 records that I can see show he had enlisted in the Essex Regiment (#55339) and he demobbed on 26 Feb 1919, he joined the Labour Corps (#698103?) for a short service on 3 June 1919.

May be worth looking at this family a little further? Of course, you may have already done so and discounted them!
