Wiltshire, Sherston Magna baptism - BERRY
« on: Saturday 27 April 13 05:37 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate the baptism records and any other information eg. parents names of a William Berry born approximately 1814 from Sherston Magna.

William was caught in 1835 poaching with others on the Lasborough Estate and is noted as being 21, married with one child at the time. He was given 7 years and sent to Australia as a convict. He is noted as being a blacksmith. Possibly related to Nathaniel Evans who was caught poaching with him.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Kylie

Hiya Kylie and welcome to Rootschat
2 possibles - both baptised in 1813  Sherston Magna
William Berry baptised 3rd jan 1813 - parents Thomas Berry and Sophia
William Berry baptised 28th feb 1813 - parents David Berry and Anna

1805 in Sherston Magna - Thomas Berry married Sophia Golding
1801 in Sherston Magna - David Berry married Anna Cole

No Evans surname to give you a pointer - baptised 3rd jan 1813 - would suggest that that particular William Berry was born late december 1812 ....so I would lean towards the David and Anna - BUT - some parents had their children baptised the same day as they were born - so unfortunately - you have 2 to choose from ....do you know the name of the child that William had when he was convicted ?
There`s every chance that Thomas and David were brothers ....
