First of all, thanks to everyone for your help! Some info is new, some is not.
1) Mary Solly is Archibald? I don't understand...
2) It was my grandparents that came over on the Saxonia (along with some of my uncles and aunts).
3) Did Jacob have two professions? In 1851 he was a Theatrical Singer and in 1861 a Clockmaker? Interesting to note that I found a mention of an Antique Clock Repair business named Jacob & Son of London - this must have been Jacob and son David. David's grandson (Archibald) was also a watchmaker.
4) I haven't come across any Von Volen but Jacob's daughter Rachel did marry a Van Bienne. Maybe the Von Volens were from her mother's side of the family (Kramp or Cramp).
The de Solla's were a prominent Jewish family (sadly, quite a few de Solla's were murdered during the Holocaust, hence the migration to the UK). However, my great-grandfather Abraham married out of the Jewish faith - so our Canadian branch of the de Solla's are no longer Jewish - although many of the de Solla's now living in the UK are, I believe.
I am very happy to have found a connection with two existing de Solla families in the UK. It's fun to see how the family evolved and migrated around.
I don't know how to thank-you. I'm very grateful for all that you've researched for me.
Thanks again,
lostgirl19 (Wendy de Solla)
