Gosforth area families

I am stuck trying to find information about McKey's (or McKie's) of Gosforth and Cook's of the same area.
In the parish records are two births relating to my direct ancestors.
20/10/1813 Thomas Cook , illegitimate son of Henry Cook, hatter and Mary McKey of Browfoot, Gosforth
30/10/1813 John Cook..... as above but address Hallsteads.
I found the will of David McKie, Mary's father dying in1809 at Hallsteads.
In 1839  John Cook returned with his wife Jane Forrester (married Torpenhow) and their address on daughter Mary's is again Hallsteads.
I can easily trace John and Jane after this time in Seaton and Frizington but have had no luck with his brother Thomas or the McKeys.
The 1841 Gosforth census film in Whitehaven record office is damaged and Hallsteads seems to be missing on the microfiche. Can't find anything on ancestry.
Can anyone suggest a way forward?
Anyone know where Browfoot and Hallsteads are?

Hallsteads or Hall Steads can be found using www.old-maps.co.uk
Type in the coordinate boxes 307947 and 504119
Select the 1899 map from the right hand side and when loaded zoom in.  You should see it marked in the centre just above and to the right of the word Wellington.

In 1851 there was a John Tyson aged 63 born Eskdale and wife Susan aged 60 born Cockermouth living there.  HO107/2437 folio 478 page 17.  There was also a John Taylor aged 46 and family with the same address.

I suspect John Tyson may have been living there in the 1841 census although the address is written as Hasteds or something similar.  On ancestry he has been transcribed as IDA Tyson aged 55 and wife Susanna aged 50.  HO107/156/15 folio 21 page 12. 

This doesn`t solve your problem though.

Thanks for that.  Will have a look at the map now.
There seems to be a connection between Henry Cook's family and Cooks from Irton -though a tenuous link. An Isaac Cook born Irton ended up in Gosforth.  A step son  of Robert Cook of Frizington, William Henry Bristoe  worked at Bank House Farm Gosforth in 1881 for Isaac Cook.

Anyone know much about hatters working around 1810?
