Hi Sandra, please tell me, what does C P R after James name mean? still wonder about children, i know that their grandson was born 10th march 1959 ( i was born on the 6th but due on the 10th so thats why i remember that), sure that they had son and daughter but not sure who grandson was born to, 75% it was to son who is obviously a Walker.

Hi Elaine,

Perhaps it could have been  - C P R = Canadian Pacific Railway.

There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.  The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916. 1921 is expected shortly.  As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago.
Trying to trace modern day families in Canada you depend on newspaper announcements, cemetery records, obituaries, telephone directories. (Canada 411)

Thanks for getting back to me Sandra, it is much the same in Scotland, 1911 was our last census made public, which makes it very annoying when your trying to find the children/siblings of people. Hopefully the people i am looking for are looking for us, and if I put out enough feelers, might just find them. The above was spoken of so much throughout my childhood, would love to contact her family. I can remember taking my Nan (her sister) to Prestwick Airport in 1966 to fly to Toronto to visit her. I would have been abt 7, my sis 4 and the old dog, and, of course, my parents. We were sooooo excited. Nobody in my life had gone on a plane before. How things have changed.  I use planes like getting on a bus and my kids think we have all flown since adam and eve!! Thanks again from a very cold Scotland

Hi Elaine,

Hopefully with the powers of google, a relative could pick up this thread, it happens quite a lot, so hope you are lucky.

Have you found Abigail and James on a passenger list to Canada ?

Yes I did find Abigail but will have to look again to get exact details, as far as I am aware she met Jim there, his ancestry is a mystery. I believe that she went to Canada alone and married there.

There was a death notice for a Abigail Walker in the Toronto Star, April  9th 1975.

This Abigail died on 6th April at Toronto Western hospital. She was the wife of James and mother of John.
James placed a memoriam in the paper for at least two years following, but no family names were mentioned.
