Kew National Archives look-up please - George THOMAS
« on: Thursday 25 April 13 12:02 BST (UK) »
Hello...

Would it be possible to have a look-up in the following item. Hopefully there is some sort of index :)

WO 22/277
Army and other pensions paid out locally in New Zealand - June 1875

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/details?Uri=C168800

I'm looking for a pensioner by the name of George THOMAS, regimental number 1989, late of the 70th Foot. He was discharged in Auckland, NZ in September 1863 but there doesn't seem to be any Army Pension Books for that period. Hopefully he was still alive and receiving a pension in NZ in 1875.

It's possible that he may have returned to Co.Antrim by mid-1878. If he turns up in the above 1875 Pension Book would it be possible to see if he's still in NZ in late 1877.

WO 22/286
Army and other pensions paid out locally in New Zealand - September 1877

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/details?Uri=C168809

As I said earlier, hopefully there is an index. If not, feel free to call time :)

EDIT:

Could I also ask one additional favour.

Would it be possible to look at the following item and give me a rough description of what it contains.

WO 246/19
Royal Hospital Chelsea: Letter books - Volume 19
8 Aug 1867 to 1 Oct 1869

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/details?Uri=C169642

I'm trying to find what I think is an "Army Form No.31" dated 9 Sept 1868 which mentioned an increase in the pension of George THOMAS.

The "Army Form No.31" may have the reference number "G35649". Hopefully the above Letter Book contains lots of different army forms, all organised by reference number.

For what it's worth, the prefix "G" covered the mid-1860's to the early 1870's so the reference number may simply be "35649".

Many thanks
Beg

Have been asking for the last two weeks to have my original post modified but no joy.

So for the record, the first half of my original post is no longer needed as George THOMAS has been found leaving NZ in 1867.

However the second half of my original post concerning the "Royal Hospital Chelsea: Letter books - Volume 19" is still of interest. It would be great to find an "Army Form No.31 - Ref No.G35649" in an old ledger somewhere.

Regards
