Looks like I need to go through a few security hoops before I can send personal messages.

I don't have much direct knowledge of my uncle's time in Kenya, only the stories that I learnt from my Mum and her brothers and sisters. He did lead an interesting life out there, working for one of the major oil companies (Shell or BP, can't quite recall) but can probably find out.

His father (my grandfather) was also called Alfred Ewart Holley and was the manager at Llandarcy oil refinery during the 1930s.

Must go now - but I think one more forum message in your general direction will allow me to contact you directly where we can pick it up in more depth.

What is your interest in my uncle I was wondering?

My father left Kenya in the 1990's with very few of the family photos.  This one of Ewart was one of them, and the only photo of him in the collection.  I know very little about Ewart but for one reason and another he's come to be of interest. Unfortunately the originals were later destroyed leaving only some low resolution scans.  Is this a photo you've seen before?

Interested in Holly /Holley surname. Anyone with a David Holly in their tree? Married Martha Haddon 18th April 1769 Broomfield Parish Church, Somerset. Have been searching for birthplace of David for a long time, nothing coming up in Somerset.

Hi Floky, 

Your grandfather was a friend of my grandparents out in Mombasa.  When my dad died, who was born in Nairobi, I found this photo of Ewart in the few photos he brought with him from the UK. Unfortunately the original was lost but not before being scanned in.  Have you seen this before?
