Hi

Are you sure that Sheffield is correct? According to FreeBMD the registers are currently held at Barnsley and Wakefield depending upon which part of Ecclesfield Registration District the death occurred.

Andy

Check table 2 at the bottom of the link

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/wortley.html
Ecclesfield RD from Huddersfield RD to Wortley RD then to Sheffield/Barnsley RD 1901 and 1971
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi all
thank you for your help I have arranged to get cert .Yes I have convicts in my family history .We call it royalty in Aussie land .There isnt a family historian here who isnt trying to find one I was very lucky. Mine raised a family of 9 children and taught them great values .One son became very wealthy owning a business and property in Sydney and left his fortune to nearly all family members as he never married.
My convicts story is so good I could write a book if I ever get a chance .
thanks again to all who helped to fathom this out.

Hi Silky

If the Ecclesfield Joseph Pennington age unknown is your Joseph, Would you kindly let us know how he died and where! more? if it was an accidental death as we can see if there is any Inquest records in any archives. This information can be put with Joseph's records files at Leigh town Hall (Atherton/Chowbent) Lancashire (His birth place) also Wakefield WYAS

regards Dobby

Hi John

I've rechecked at the library and it seems Joseph was buried at St Peter main church

The hand writing is the same at both Church's in the registers of ST Paul and ST Peter also he only puts  'Burials Huddersfield Yorks' and not the church name in both books on each page headers

Therefore the micro fiche may have got mixed up in the envelopes.

Hi Silky

My referral to the siblings of Joseph as petty criminals & a poor family was only in respect of them may not have known about reporting a death for record and was not derogatory to you as your family having convicts. My Gt x 2 grandfather was a serial killer who topped himself before they caught him - I'm glad my mother never found out about it before she died but she always knew there was shame within her family as a taboo subject in the family. Like you !- I could not give a **** !!! who knows!  ;D ;D ;D
