Newbie sort of!
« on: Tuesday 23 April 13 13:23 BST (UK) »
Hello All

This forum looks great! had a quick peek around but looks very daunting!

The reason i came here was i was directed here from a contact in the US who is reseaching the same tree as me, and pointed to a board where the whole thread unravelled the story of my Grandma, was most fascinating and a bit weird to be honest. I had completly the wrong details about her and with her guidance and the said post i have managed to piece together her story. I have actually updated the thread but no one has replied yet, it is 6  months old.

My Family Tree is Tennant/Mccann. The Mccann side (maternal) i researched about 5 years ago before giving birth to my first daughter. The Tennant (paternal0 part i started recently whcih brings to my question!

My Dad is Lionel J T Tennant b 1928. He served in the merchant navy, he was a bit of a roamer, my mum divorced him in 1973 and since then me and brothers heard little of him. Our last contact was when my father became ill in hospital and the hospital contacted his youngest son Barry Tennant to request his presence, we think this was in 1979 or 1980.  Barry was on a ship in HM Royal Navy at the time he got this request via his officer, but unfortunately he did not attend, and sadly this was the last we heard. Barry insists the call came from a hospital in Amsterdam. My father was a street entertainer and travelled europe lots after retiring from the navy, he never really had a fixed abode. Other members of the family have siad he died in germany and he married again and had more children. According to my mother he was already a divorceee when she met him, but i can find no evidence of anymore marriages apart from theirs! Now when i do searches using BDM etc i get his birth, and marriage. ive got all his brothers, ive found his Mum the famous ''gertrude'' mentioned above, but nothing else on my dad. The last thing i have done is communicated with the city hall in amsterdam explaining the above and they are doing a search, but im still waiting. All me and my brothers want to know is where he died and go pay our respects. My brother barry hates himself for not leaving his ship (esp having permission) and going to see him he having a really hard time with it. I explain he was 19 at the time and he was young but he wont stop until hes visited his grave bless him. If anyone can shed any light i would be most grateful My Brother wants us to go to wherever he is in Europe asap.

Thank you all for welcoming me to the site and thank you also in advance for any help with the above.

Welcome to Rootschat, SacredG

I don't know how many hospitals might be in Amsterdam, but presumably he was in a public hospital?  If you don't get a record of his death from Amsterdam authorities, it may be worthwhile trawling through the big hospitals to ask if they have archived records that you can access?

Gertrude 'mentioned above' is not in your above post, but in your one on another thread!

Sounds like you have an interesting family!

PS  If you are sure he died in Amsterdam / Germany, it may be an idea to get this transferred to the Europe board.  Some people only look at specialist boards, I believe.    DM

You click on 'Report to Moderator' I think and ask for where you want it moved to.

I've not asked for my own posts previously, but have done that as a suggestion to the moderator, some time ago, and it was actioned.
