Lila/Eliza Royles
« on: Monday 22 April 13 23:48 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I,m trying to find family info on my grt grandmother Lila/Eliza Royles (not sure of the spelling), She was the wife of my grt grandfather Joseph/Josiah Smith and mother of my grandfather Jim Smith.
Her nephew was Chris Royles (fighter/boxer) and she is the subject of the paintings "Gypsy Splendour"(1939) and "Granny Smith" by Dame Laura Knight DBE.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey there,

Eliza/Lila was my grandads Auntie. That's way back so I'd have to ask my dad, uncle and auntie about her, hopefully they may remember. I'm not seeing them til middle of May but I may try and speak to them by phone before then.

No problem cuz. I'll try and speak to them soon. Thanks for mentioning those paintings. Never seen those before. They are great!

I'll ask about Eliza's christian name. What year was Eliza born, 1881? If so, then perhaps she is visible on the 1901 census. I have a bit of info on that myself but I'll still speak to my family.
