WW1 New Zealand Soldiers
« on: Sunday 21 April 13 03:35 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I am one of the founders of the Onward Project. We are a none profit group who are working on a project for the 100th Anniversary of WW1 (we are recognised by the NZ government's WW100 Centenary organisation). Our aim is to publish a photograph of each man and woman that served overseas between 1914-1918 as part of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. It is a fairly ambitious project, with around 100,000 photos to find, but we have already published the first volume with over 4,100 portraits, and we are well on our way to completing volume 2.

We are asking for help from the public to submit photos of their family members that served, and have found the genealogical people of great help!!!

If you can help by supplying a photo they can be sent to onwardnzef.book[at]gmail.com

Thank you

Phil Beattie & Matt Pomeroy

Kahu, their FB site says " Although our first preference is for the men to be in uniform, it is often the case that the only image that survives is in civilian clothes, so to answer your question, yes we would love a copy of your photo!"

Thanks for the reply.
I have only one photo of my Gt Uncle which is a portrait of four brothers and father taken I think 1911, which is a good few years before he went overseas.
I will get it photoshopped so it is just him and send that in, in case you don't receive anything else.  He didn't return and has no descendants so possibly this is the only photo.

Hi Kahu, photos in civvies is fine. If you like just scan as best you can and we can crop out your relative.

Hi Suzy,

Thank you for your kind words. We would love to be able to include your photos.

Looking at your names of interest I see you list Tew as a surname. There were only 4 Tew's who served in the NZEF, Arthur, Harold Percival, Leslie George and Stanley, and at this stage we do not have photos of any of them!

There are even fewer Pentecost's, with only the 2, Clarence Cecil Stanley and Edward, and we do not have photos of either of them.

And of course we would welcome any Lyall, Watkin, or Whitakers you may have!

Look forward to hearing from you

Matt
