Are you still interested in this post? My father was injured in 1944 and spent some months at Plas Mariandir in Deganwy. I have a photo of him and other patients on the steps of the building. It must have been taken between 1944 and 1950. There was also another Hospital Saturday place in Arnside just outside the lake district, and my mother in law worked there. Small world. I would be interested in visiting Plas Mariandir and researching its history.

Hi,  After searching the web I found your article on Plas Mariandir the reason for my search was that after my mother passed away I found two different photos of my grandfather with a group of men and nurses standing at the front of a building there are also some postcards of the same place Plas Mariandir, I don't know why he was there or what year it would have been but if you are interested in the photos and postcard I can email them to you.

Best regards
Steve

Hi Steve. My father was injured in 1944 and spent some months at Plas Mariandir in Deganwy. I have a photo of him and other patients on the steps of the building and you should be able to see it on the original RootsChat . It must have been taken between 1944 and 1950. I am interested in the photos and post cards.
The Plas Mariandir building was built in 1935 as part of the Manchester and Salford Hospital Saturday Fund as a convalescent home, as there was no National Health Service at the time, and you paid a weekly subscription to be a member. I am assuming the military used it during and after WW2 for wounded soldiers etc, and this may be why your Grandfather was there.
Was your Grandfather from the Manchester area.
I guess from your Roots name you may be in Australia.
We visited  Plas Mariaonly last week. It is in Deganwy near Llandudno, Wales.
I was shown round by Alan Williams, (Humphpaul on Roots) who now lives there as it has been converted into retirement homes.
I will message you my email address.
Regards Eric
