I have just moved to some retirement flats in Deganwy, Llandudno which are in an old convalescent home for men. I have seen the plans drawn up in 1916 which show the above organisation as the intended owners. The name is Plas Mariandir and I think the building has been various institutions from the 1920s to 1987 when it was converted to flats.
I have just done the research out of habit and nosiness. Has anyone any interest or info.
Thanks Humphpaul

I don't know about the convalescent homes Humphpaul, but I was a member of the 'Saturday Fund' for several few years through the company I was working for.  Set up originally to help workers cover the cost of healthcare or a few pennies a week.

Later Healthsure and now Simply Health.   Probably not quite as philanthropic as originally meant to be.   The mighty Profit and all that!

Google Docs has a piece from someone after whom a home was named - may be the predecessor home or the women's home though (shrunk link):

Manchester University's catalogue has a mention under reference GB 133 MMC 8/26:

Mention in the British Medical Journal of 1908 (perhaps a previous home) (PDF download)

To MSR and MSHRMH thanks for that great info. I have read the Swinglehurst document and if there is a reference to Plas Mariandir on the mug I would love a photo if possible. I would pay any cost of course. I would think Llandudno Archive Office would also make use of a photo whatever the name is.
I also have read the page from John Rylands Library which explains a lot.  Any info. will be passed on to other residents here who are also interested in the buildings past. Thanks again Humphpaul

Dear MSR, It is not my Plas Mariandir but very interesting to find the same name elsewhere.
This one in Penmaenmawr has a bit on the towns history site as William Gladstone went there a lot. I will be going there soon to have a look to see if it is still there.
If you google 'flats for sale Deganwy' you will get a few estate agents photos of this building if you want. Cheers Humphpaul

There were 2no Convalescence homes in Deganwy.  The small one holdind about 20 patients was named Swinglehurst. I attended this one for 2 weeks in 1952 a second one was Plas Mariandir which held about 40 patients They were both run by the Manchester And Salford Hospital saturday Fund Both were extremely well run and the food was excellent A very happy time was had by all patients

Dear Bill McHugh, Thanks for that interesting info. The place is now split into 30 flats and there are about 40 people here so you had lots of space. The main staircase is quite impressive with a lovely stained glass window at the top which might be an original feature. Cheers Humphpaul
