Boer War - S.R Reynolds great photo
« on: Friday 19 April 13 09:42 BST (UK) »
Hi

Someone kindly sent this wonderful photo to me, and i would love to pass it to the Reynolds family. It was taken by a long distant relative of mine who took photos during the Boer War 6th Dragoon South Africa.
Regards

Stunning :) My grandfather will be in this pic somewhere, as he was 6th DG during the Boer War. I have nil pics of him, bar x1 in his old age, and of course, he died almost 20yrs before I was born....
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Great Photo.   I thought we would only ever find sketches drawn by artists sent to South Africa like this one of the Coldstream Guards charging at Diamond Hill.

My Great Uncle, William Grant, brother of my Dad's mother was in the Coldsteam Guards and his record shows the same up and down progress, e.g. G.C pay then Forfeit G.C. pay, but it was the small entries that gave me quite a shock.    When he came out, he went on to the reserve and before long was called back and sent to South Africa.   The battles he was in, including Diamond Hill are all listed there in his record, along with his medals.
