You can find out about the Kings Own Scottish Borderers regiment here  (Black cock feathers)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00jsgw2/In_the_Highest_Tradition_Episode_6/
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

...........But he is wearing a Black Watch sporran,  KOSB sporran has two long black tails (tassles) He has no regimental insignia on his belt buckle, KOSB glengarry was diced, KOSBs wore a Leslie tartan as well as Royal Stewart,  which I don't think this is, I concede the badge is probably KOSB.
The plaid brooch, if it was KOSB would have the regimental badge in the centre instead of a cairngorm stone
I think this pic was taken in a studio with a mish mash of Highland military clothing loaned for the pic by the studio.

This topic is also on Photographic board.

Thanks James

Your deductions are most likely true.  I wanted to know for sure because he was in the Royal Navy and when I saw this picture, I was confused.

I will assume it was taken in celebration of his heritage and nothing to do with his Military history.

Thanks so much
Cheers
