Marriage in Malton
« on: Tuesday 16 April 13 16:08 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone look up a marriage in Malton in 1894.  William Southwick married Matilda Ruddock.  Would love to have the information.  I cannot travel at the moment due to ill health.

Thanks

Hi,

Without knowing which church, if it was a church wedding, it would be very difficult to search as the Malton registration district covers several places.  If it was not a church wedding then you will need to buy a copy of the certificate, cost £9.25, which can be ordered online from GRO.

Family search has their marriage listed as 11th March 1894  New Malton, York  if that helps anyone with searching

The marriage registers for New Malton St Leonard up to 1947 are deposited at the Borthwick Institute in York but unfortunately they have only been microfilmed up to 1885. It is possible to view the original Registers after this date but only when the full archive service is operating.  I'm happy to do the look up for you sometime but not sure when I'll be visiting next. If you're not in too much of a hurry I can add it to my to do list.

According to Yorkshire BMD, which tends to give more info than other sources, the marriage took place at St. Leonard's, New Malton. You can print off an order form for the certificate (ref. C90RY/2/236) and send it by post. The registers are said to be at Harrogate.
The last time I did this, the turnaround was 2 days, and that over a bank holiday!
All the best
