Ellerington/Morton
« on: Monday 08 April 13 22:08 BST (UK) »
We are trying to trace the Ellerington/Morton family connection. Started in Yorkshire with the marriage of John Morton to Elizabeth Ellerington, we can trace the family to Liverpool, then Birkenhead and USA. Interested in the John Marshall Morton line from Liverpool to Birkenhead.

Can you include a timescale please

Did you mean to post on the one name studies board as it doesn't seem to fit with your query?

John Morton marries Elizabeth Ellerington 1841
Twelve children arrive, amongst them is:
John Marshall Morton b1845 York, marries Sarah Towers Liverpool 1865
William Ellerington Morton b 1873 marries Margaret Walker Birkenhead 1898
William Ellerington Morton b 1899 W.Derby
Harold Gordon Morton b 1908 Egremont Cheshire
We have the family in 1911 in Seacombe, Wallasey and we would be interested in the the next stage - this is from three branches of the original 12 siblings of John and Elizabeth's family that have got together through Roots Chat!

I have a connection to this family (well, actually, my wife does)....

the family I have for John & Elizabeth are as follows
Annie 1842
Thomas Marshall 1844
John 1845
George Allinson 1847
William Ellerington 1849
Elizabeth Morley 1851
Edward 1852
Olivia Emily 1856
Frederick Foxton 1858
Frederick Henry 1859
Maria Alice 1861

Notice I have Thomas MARSHALL, 1844, and John (no MARSHALL) 1845...... based on

1851 Census
Township of Bilton with Harrogate

William C. MORTON, Son, 2, YKS, Whitby
Elizabeth MORTON, Dau, 6 months, YKS, Harrogate

I can't find them in 1861, but in 1871, it's still Thomas M.

plus vistors and boarders

Would love to swap info and sort it out - have a great deal of information on descendants. My wife comes down from John's brother, William MORTON, b1815 in Doncaster

Hello and happy new year to you!
We have John Morton's brother, William Morton b 1815 marrying Sarah Anne Lister b 1827 - is that your descendent line?
Interesting that they had children where the name Marshall was used as a middle name too.
We are using MyHeritage as a means of recording our family tree.
How are you recording your findings?
And yes, we would like to share our findings with you - we have already caught up with a third cousin in NY and another close by in UK!!!
Regards
Mike Morton

nice to "meet" you Mike.

The census records I quoted in the previous message were for YOUR John & Elizabeth.... not William. I don't think they used the Marshall name in Sheila's side of the family, but the mothers maiden name as a middle name does make an appearance - her great grandfather (William's son) was called Benjamin Lister Morton

Anyway, just getting ready to head out to a New years party, so I'll talk to you next year and we'll sort it all out.

Cheers
Tom

I'm connected to this family too.  My great-grandmother was the grandaughter of William Ellerington and Margaret C Morton.  Tom, lost touch with you over the years, just sending you an email to reconnect!
