George Hulbert married to Frances Hulbert
« on: Monday 08 April 13 07:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone help me with research into George and Frances Hulbert, they are my great, great, great grandparents and I am unable to find out when they came to Australia, and also what Frances' maiden name was. They were involved in the hotel industry in Adelaide from the 1850's to the early 1900's. George may have been born in 1813 and Frances in 1820 as far as I can work out to date.
Thanks in advance for any help
Julianne

A birth cert of one of their children (your g g grandparent) would reveal mothers maiden name,  certainly it would in England, not 100% sure about Australia
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I can't see a marriage but Family Search has a christening of a Josephine Theodosia Frances Hulbert  on 30 Jan 1842 at Urchfont, Wiltshire with a parents George Taylor Hulbert and Frances Hubert.

Edit the birth is on FreeBMD if it is the right family.

Is this the George Hulbert who died 18th August 1859, aged 46, in Adelaide?

On Ancestry is a public photograph of a gravestone. Names on there are:
George Hulbert, d 18th August 1859, age 46
George Edwin Hulbert, son of the above, d 5th April 1873, age 27
George Hulbert, d 18th July 1873, age 88 (Presumably the father?)
Frances Badman, d 28th August 1900, age 84
Harry Washington, son of George Hulbert, d 3rd April 1872, age 3 yrs 11 months

I thought that these names may help someone locate the correct George & Francis? ;D

THanks Kgarrad, I have seen the above headstone in the cemetery and that is the correct family. It is a little confusing with so many George hulberts but your interpretation is correct.
Frances Badman on the headstone was George hulberts wife and she remarried upon his death in 1860 to Sylvester pursey badman.

Hi

I think the birth of Josephine in 1842 is found in  Mar quarter 1842  for Josephine Theodosia Frances Hulbert   in  Devizes   Registration District Volume 8   Page 332

With a fairly unusual name like Hubert you can search with a minimal amount of information so try Sept 1837-1851 with the surname of Hulbert and in the county of Wiltshire (registration didn't start until Sept 1837). You can't search both Reg District and County at the same time, but as both Rebecca and Josephine were born in the Devizes Reg District you could include Devizes in the search instead of Wiltshire.

You can buy any certificates from the General Record Office online for under £10 quoting the references found on FreeBMD

Hope this helps and do ask if you are stuck
